Our Worcester care home cook, Rosie, likes to makes sure each one of our residents has a special treat on their birthday. She does this by baking them their very own masterpiece in the form of a personalised, birthday cake.
Our residents absolutely love it and we love to see the smiles and joy it brings to them and their families. It’s a really unique touch that came about through Rosie’s recently discovered talent for baking.
Worcester Care Home Cakes by Rosie, How She Became Stanfield’s Star Baker
Rosie’s journey to becoming Stanfield’s baker extraordinaire has been an inspiring one. She began working at our Worcester care home following 18 years out of employment due to health reasons. I could always see her potential and would encourage her as much as possible. But, struggling at the time with no confidence, she was a very different person back then to the one that forms such an integral part of the Stanfield team today. I am delighted that since working here she has absolutely blossomed. Myself and the rest of the team at our Worcester care home have all noticed it.
In her role as cook, Rosie has always produced fantastic food for our residents, and continues to do so. But it’s been her newly found passion for making cakes, discovered whilst working here, that has seen her truly flourish. She’s unquestionably found her niche and now bakes at every opportunity. Something which, of course, goes down well with all of the residents and team alike!
As a result, she makes sure every resident at our care home Worcester gets their very own personalised birthday cake. And, what a wonderful addition it is to our overall care principles of treating our residents as individuals. Having a personalised, freshly baked birthday cake is something fun for both the recipient and their families. It’s part of our holistic care ethos and forms part of our food philosophy, whereby we offer a wide and varied diet for our residents.
As part of Stanfield’s “making not buying” theme this Christmas, Rosie will be helping the residents to weigh out the ingredients for some of the delicious festive food she’ll be creating. We know she’s got some fabulous ideas for Christmas cakes and our residents and staff (myself included!) will be waiting with forks at the ready to sample her mouthwatering fare!
