English Symphony Orchestra
During the first week of September residents at Stanfield Nursing Home were highly anticipating the concert by the English Symphony Orchestra (ESO) Wind Quartet! It was a thrilling day with fun, conversation and engagement in the music. Friends and families of loved ones joined us for ESO’s production with lots of laughter and enthusiasm followed by some refreshments.
Music is a very important element when caring for those with dementia. As a nursing home that provides specialist dementia care we take this into consideration when planning our weekly nursing home activities calendar. Certain genres of music, especially classical, can help those to reminisce over times gone by as well as stimulate their interaction with the environment – physically and socially! As a result of this important factor, we were deeply thrilled to invite ESO to perform at our care home as they share a vision of spreading the joys of music to multiple care homes around the country. One member of ESO, Corinne Frost, is a frequent visitor at our care home. She plays traditional melodies in wonderful performances for our residents and families.

Specials days with our residents
Happy Grandparents Day! Our Worcestershire care home is always open to visitors of loved ones with no formal visiting times!
Instead, we actively encourage friends and relatives to visit Stanfield Nursing Home as often as they want at a time that is convenient for them and the resident they are visiting. Visitors may wish to pop in for a few minutes on their way to or from work. They may also want to join in with the activities we have in place over the month!
Here is a selection of activities from last month:
- Painting
- Yoga-style exercise
- Watching the BBC Proms
- Playing games from the 40s and 50s
- Mandala-style colouring
- Netball and football
Macmillan Coffee Morning
Residents, staff, family and friends all became a part of the world’s biggest coffee morning – the Macmillan Coffee Morning. On the 27th, we invited residents and loved ones in for a morning of tea and scrumptious cake, made by both visitors and members of staff! It was wonderful to have everyone come together and raise money for a good cause, which is closely related to some of our past and present residents.
Last year Macmillon raised £26,914,382! Don’t worry about missing the official morning this year because you can still get your own free Coffee Morning kit to host whenever. Details can be found on their website.
