Caring for people
This pandemic raises a particular challenge for care homes across the globe. There is a necessity to adapt to the changing circumstances to better care for people. Thanks to the many Covid-19 resources available online and with Government guidance Stanfield Nursing Home have been able to support residents, their families and our nursing home staff.
All of our staff have undergone the relevant training to prepare for the changes made to our home. This website is one of the many useful Covid-19 resources that have helped inform our practice. We increased the frequency of using our Glitterbug machine which illuminates bacteria remaining on your hands after washing them. This allows us to regularly maintain good and improved hand hygiene for everyone in the home. Members of our senior team received PPE training from the South Worcestershire Clinical Commissioning Group as part of their commitment to Infection Prevention and Control. We also remain socially distanced at all times and take special care in checking temperatures of people we care for and other signs related to the virus.
Birthdays on video calls
For most residents, the risks of exposure to Covid-19 from visitors outweigh the benefits. Though it has been hard, we made the decision to close our doors to any visitors, such as family and friends. Since then we have implemented another useful Covid-19 resources with iPads and tablets. Therefore, allowing residents to speak to their loved ones via video call. It has been a pleasure to see people being able to connect, after a bit of getting used to of course!
Because of this, we have been able to set up virtual birthdays. Our Stanfield team managed to incorporate an exciting way to celebrate people’s birthdays in the presence of their families and friends! We gathered everyone around within the social distancing requirements and served afternoon tea. We had a delightful time singing happy birthday and giving lots of cards and presents using FaceTime to connect people to their loved ones throughout.
Caring community
Covid-19 resources are not just limited to health advice and equipment. Residents also receive great benefits from the continued activities in our home. Our activities manager plans an event calendar each month with a range of activities such as knitting, painting, and listening to music. Despite coronavirus, we have been able to offer the same fun-packed days as before the pandemic! This has been a wonderful experience for all in the home. In addition, it continues to engage our residents and maintain a stable lifestyle.
