Dementia Support

A charity has called on people to make a New Year’s resolution by spending more time and offering dementia support to loved ones. New research by the Alzheimer’s Society shows that 64 per cent of those in the north east diagnosed with the disease feel isolated. This highlights the growing importance of specialist dementia care in Worcestershire and across the UK to help combat loneliness and foster meaningful connections.

The findings also highlighted that 44 per cent of people mistakenly think that once a person with dementia stops recognising loved ones, they do not benefit from spending time with them. But officials at the charity say people can help by being around those who have support.

Hazel Cuthbertson, from the Alzheimer’s Society, said: “After spending time with friends and family over the festive period, New Year can be a bleak and lonely time for people with dementia and their carers. It’s so important for people with dementia support to feel connected throughout the year.”
